Bob Shinholt, a Cumberland, Maryland native, retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1999 after serving with honor for over 21 years, 16 of those years as a top-notch fighter aircraft mechanic and supervisor. He closed out his military career after five years as the Flight Safety Superintendent for the world’s largest fighter pilot training base. After retirement, he worked for several well-known government contractors in the aviation sector as a safety and environmental specialist and manager. Currently Mr. Shinholt is the Sr. Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager at ALOFT AeroArchitects, located in Georgetown, Delaware, and has been with that firm for over 10 years. ALOFT employs over 330 aircraft mechanics and technicians, engineers, and support staff, and specializes in the manufacturing and installation of auxiliary fuel tanks/systems on Boeing 737s, 757s, Fokker and CRJ 200 aircraft. ALOFT also provides heavy aircraft maintenance services, and designs/installs custom VIP aircraft cabin interiors. Under Mr. Shinholt’s effective leadership and passion for safety, ALOFT has successfully gone 3 ½ years without a lost-time injury and has watched the medical costs paid out by the workers compensation carrier plummet from over $400,000 in 2009 to less than $36,000 in 2015.
